FREE Freshwater Health Infographics

As part of our wider Focus Catchment Map Series document development we produced four other infographics covering some of the key processes and challenges that underpin freshwater health across Aotearoa:

Catchment Connections

This infographic illustrates how catchments work as interconnected systems. Showing how water flows from mountains, lakes, and springs through rivers, wetlands, and estuaries before reaching the sea. It highlights why a catchment-based approach is so important for restoring and protecting the health of our waterways.

The Nitrogen Cycle

The nitrogen cycle can be complex to explain, so we’ve developed a poster that visualises the many flow paths and interactions of nitrates across land and freshwater. This graphic is especially useful for catchment groups wanting to build their understanding of nitrate dynamics, sources, and impacts.

Freshwater Springs

Not all springs are the same! This infographic explores three distinct types: gravity, artesian, and seepage springs. It shows how each one forms, how they interact with the wider landscape, and why groundwater health is so important for sustaining spring-fed ecosystems.

Stormwater & Urban Streams

Urban development brings unique challenges to waterways. Our stormwater poster compares natural water systems with urban stormwater networks, showing the symptoms of ‘urban stream syndrome’ – including altered flows, pollutants, disconnected floodplains, and simplified or fragmented habitats.

These resources are designed to support learning, conversation, and decision making around freshwater management. You can download an A3 pdf of all these posters for free below…or email info@eosecology.co.nz if you’d like some high resolution A0 artwork to send to your printer (yep, we’ll provide that artwork and printers specifications for free as well!).
