Wetland Delineation

Wetland delineation has become a significant topic of discussion in New Zealand, especially following the recent amendments to the National Policy Statement for Freshwater Management 2020 (NPS-FM), which took effect on 5 January 2023. These amendments mandate that by 3 September 2030, regional councils identify, map, delineate, and monitor all ‘natural inland wetlands’ larger than 500 m² or those that support threatened species. This presents a considerable challenge, as it involves delineating a vast number of wetlands across Aotearoa.

Our multidisciplinary team of scientists, GIS specialists, and experienced wetland consultants provide comprehensive wetland delineation services tailored to your region, land or project. We adhere to rigorous, internationally recognised methodologies for evaluating vegetation, hydric soils, and hydrology, as outlined in the Ministry for the Environment’s Wetland Delineation Protocols and the Essential Freshwater 2022 framework, along with other relevant guidelines.

Whether you’re a regional council, landowner, or developer in need of wetland delineation or monitoring services, our experts are ready to assist you. Contact us today to learn how we can support you.
